Experimental Project: Digital Book

Sometimes I did few experimental projects. This is one of them during the time at Autodesk.

Tips & Tricks Wiki

The link about is a self-contained document, the missing things are graphical elements, at the time I could not find way to practically store photos within an HTML document. Need to learn more HTML5 now!

The original introduction I wrote:

“This is the TiddlyWiki version of the book “Tips & Tricks for Using AutoCAD 2007 Software” by LynnAllen. The conversion was done by TranTuanAnh.

The purpose of this experiment is to try out new ways to provide post-sale documentation to users. Few advantages of using TiddlyWiki are following:

* It is more interactive, TiddlyWiki offers an extremely interesting way to browse the content with the concepts of WikiWord, tags, etc.
* It helps to democratize the publication process. It is Read/Write documents my friends 🙂 Users can participate, they can make changes; we empower them.
* The kind of content like “Tips and Tricks” is MicroContent and should be written in a new WritingStyle.
* It is technically and practically convenient, this is just one HTML file. Anyone can ready it, everyone can publish it.

I leave you to figure out how ThisSiteStructure is mapped from the original document.”

mTin 3.0 smartphone experience

iPhone came to the market and brought to us (consumers) the great mobile experience that we had never seen before. Now, we have many other smartphone choices: Android, Windows Phone 7, webOS, MeeGo (N9), etc. Many of us now take for granted the good user experience of smartphones; but don’t forget 80% of mobile devices sold worldwide are mass-market phones (feature phones).

That means majority of mobile users still have to live with the poor experience of feature phones. The phones are usually slow, many of them don’t support wifi or 3G, browsers are really bad, navigation is hard and complex, etc. Yet, customers deserve better. At FELIX, one of our goal is bringing smartphone experience to mass-market phones, and we did just that in this latest version of mTin.

mTin is the one-stop shop for all mobile services:

  • News: update latest news from more than hundred of newspapers.
  • Everything about football: news, live scores, results, fixtures, tables, etc., of all leagues.
  • Entertainment: music, photos, games, hot clips, celebrity gossip, etc.
  • Lottery: results from all provinces, stats and predictions, etc.
  • Finance: Business news, stock market, quotes, etc.

You can find out more about mTin at http://mtin.vn/

There are many little improvements here and there in this release, however we have revamped the product in following areas:

  • User Interface. We have improved not only the graphic, but also the interaction model. So it is easier for users now to navigate and access content they want.
  • Content. We improved the content both in term of breadth and depth.
  • Payment. A lot more flexible, customers can purchase items individually, there are very good free section, or you can choose the subscription method. Ultimately we let our customers decide how best they enjoy their mobile experience.

You can download mTin at http://d.mtin.vn (using your phone browser), or simply text MTIN to 6089.

mTin is brought to you by FELIX and Incom. We have worked together over the years and through the woods to best serve our customers. We would like to thank our teammates from Incom for their hard-work to make this release happened!

State of the Voice

This has been an exciting year for FELIX. One significant milestone was the release of the third generation of our mobile publishing platform (3G-MPP). The technology has been behind our flagship product BaoMoi.mobi version 3. And now the 3G-MPP has also manifested itself in another new product “Chúc Bé Ngủ Ngon” (Bed Time Stories for Kids).

3G-MPP itself is a major technology achievement. As our technology is able to delivery reliably audio-slide shows (mobile audio slide – MAS) to mobile devices without any special requirements on bandwidth or device configurations. Our technology runs smoothly on 2G networks and on all feature phones popular in the market.

In addition to pushing the technology limits, we have been experimenting a lot with the content format. The technology has opened the door to many opportunities which we could not think of before. The first “product” using 3G-MPP is the daily news reports “Bản Tin 59′” which had very good responses from our BaoMoi users. Based on our experience working on “Bản Tin 59′”, we firmly believe we are on something very interesting; our MAS simply allows us to be creative on how we delivery rich media content to our customers.

When we were experimenting with bed time stories for kids using MAS, it felt just right; we think we found the “sweet spot”. So we decided to branch out to make a product on its own. Here it is:

http://mvstore.vn/4A12BCDEF/000829/Chi-tiet.aspx

You can download “Chúc bé ngủ ngon” from mvstore.vn. Parents! if you are tired of the same old stories, “Chúc bé ngủ ngon” is the answer. Our app will read bedtime stories for your kids. The story collection has been carefully selected and been updated frequently. Our app not only helps your kids go into sleep, but also teaches them valuable lessons. The voice is professionally recorded; the illustrations are carefully crafted. Give it a try and let us know what you think!

P/S: this is promotional writeup of my company, FELIX, new product.
